Disseminated Mycobacterium interjectum Infection with Bacteremia, Hepatic and Pulmonary Involvement Associated with a Long-Term Catheter Infection
We present a 49-year-old female with one year of intermittent fevers, chills, night sweats, and significant weight loss. Liver and lung biopsy showed evidence of a granulomatous process. Blood and liver biopsy cultures yielded growth of presumed Mycobacterium interjectum, thought to be related to a disseminated long-term central venous catheter infection. She successfully received one year of c...
متن کاملMycobacterium avium complex infection-related immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome of the central nervous system in an HIV-infected patient: case report and review.
Disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection involves the central nervous system (CNS) less frequently than tuberculosis, and MAC-related immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) of the CNS in AIDS patients is even more rarely described. We report a case of MAC-related IRIS of the CNS in an HIV-infected patient who presented with meningoencephalitis and myelitis 2 months a...
متن کاملAn Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis Case due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an inflammatory and demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system that is characterized by multifocal involvement of the white matter. Our patient was a 27-year-old female patient who had given birth to a baby with caesarean in another hospital. After four days upon the parturition, she was admitted to our hospital’s general intensive care u...
متن کاملDisseminated Mycobacterium avium-Intracellulare Complex Infection Presenting With Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation in an AIDS Patient
Disseminated Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex (MAC) infection is one of the relatively common opportunistic infections seen in severely immunocompromised AIDS patients. A constellation of clinical, laboratory, and pathological features involving multiple organ systems are often present in disseminated MAC infection but disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) has not been previous...
متن کاملT lymphocyte responses to mycobacterial antigen in AIDS patients with disseminated Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare infection.
Patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) who have Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare (MAI) infection typically have widely disseminated disease, often fail to respond to multi-drug chemotherapeutic regimens, and show little or no inflammatory tissue response. To determine if this clinicopathologic state correlates with in vitro lymphocyte responses to specific antig...
